Elementos do universo
Nieris is a traveler between the dreams of the Nabis and the Waking World.
When the Nabis gather and the boundary between worlds grows thin, passages begin to open. That is when Nieris can cross the veil and enter their dreams, traveling from one to another without ever knowing exactly where the next crossing will take her.
Some of these dreams are peaceful, comforting, and filled with tiny pink butterflies. Others slowly begin to distort, touched by fear, anxiety, painful memories, and emotions too intense to remain hidden.
As the distortion grows, the butterflies can change with it. Their pink fades, their wings darken, and a strange violet, viscous substance begins to appear where there was once light. Sometimes it seems to come from the dream itself. Other times, Nieris feels as if something from the Waking World managed to cross over with her.
She never chose this role and does not see herself as a hero. She simply discovered that she can interfere with these places: restoring fragments of a dream, helping a Nabi find a way out, or simply trying to stop the distortion before it consumes everything around them.
But no journey lasts forever.
Eventually, the passage begins to weaken. The light grows distant, the dreams become harder to reach, and Nieris is pulled back into the Waking World, a strange, heavy, quiet reality where magic feels far away and things never seem to work quite the way they do inside dreams.
To Nieris, this is the true nightmare.
She can exist there. She can move through its paths and wait for another passage to appear. But she never feels as though she belongs to that place. What she truly wants is to return to the dreams of the Nabis, to the butterflies, to the light, and to that brief moment when everything feels exactly where it should be.
By her side is Ming, her small white companion with reddish-pink eyes and a dark gray tip on his tail. In the Waking World, he looks like nothing more than a plush toy. Inside dreams, however, he comes to life and accompanies Nieris through every crossing.
He also acts as an anchor. Whenever Nieris begins to lose herself inside a distortion, his presence helps her remember who she is. And when the Waking World feels too heavy, he becomes a small reminder that the dreams are still out there somewhere.
Why can she cross through the dreams of the Nabis, yet never find her own?
Why does the Waking World always manage to pull her back?
And if she ever finds her own dream… will she finally be able to remain there?
Elements of the universe
Dream Butterflies
Small fragments connected to the dreams of the Nabis, wishes, happy memories, and emotions that still carry light. They usually appear in shades of pink and accompany Nieris throughout her crossings.
Nightmare Butterflies
Butterflies touched by distortion. They become dark, viscous, and deformed. Nieris still does not know whether this corruption comes only from dreams or if it is somehow connected to the Waking World.
Distortions
Areas of a dream altered by intense emotions or by something that does not belong there. Flowers die, light disappears, and a dark substance may begin to invade the environment.
The Waking World
The other reality Nieris is pulled into whenever the passages to dreams close. It is familiar enough for her to exist there, but distant enough that it never feels like her true home.
Ming
Ming accompanies Nieris between worlds. In the Waking World, he appears to be a plush toy; inside dreams, he comes to life. He is a familiar presence and an anchor during distortions.
Central mystery
Nieris does not know why passages open into the dreams of the Nabis, why she can cross them, or why the Waking World insists on calling her back.
She also does not know why her own dream remains inaccessible.
The origin of her journeys, the connection between the distortions and the Waking World, Nieris's past, and the reason she can never remain inside the dreams are still mysteries.
